I see it as a sign I bought the right car. I can look forward to driving it knowing it will make me forget the bullshit that happen at work. With previous cars they were a “car”, but not “my car”. My Juke is “my car”, it has shown me what a car can do to you.

I used to. Now my car is ugly but at least it still sounds good.

So does insurance do anything for hail or are you on your own?

It does, they wrote a check that wouldn’t have covered everything (according to the body shop) and there weren’t appointments available for a year and a half (at which point the value to damage ratio would have totaled the car), so I paid off the car instead.

Well.... At least there’s that silver lining!

Yup! If I was waiting until November of 2018 to fix it I would have felt ridiculous by the time I took it in. I don’t know why it bugs me so much, I drove a car with an elk imprint for a year and I’m far from the only car with hailpox.
I’m waiting to see if the WRX from the parking lot will get fixed. The guy took it pretty well but I think it was his midlife crisis car so I’m curious.

I’m mostly glad there isn’t glass on the ground and my work tools stolen.
The other day, I didn’t have to worry. After ordering my food I looked out to this:
The Tahoe on the other side is a cop car too.

I think mine looks good, but I also think it looks like a minivan...

I wouldn’t say it’s a great looking car by any objective standard (although I personally like it, with the swoops down the side and goofy smile on the front), but every time I come out to drive it I keep thinking that I’m the luckiest guy to be able to drive this. If it was a snooze to drive I might not feel this way, but with a slick 6MT and a rev-happy engine along with good handling is surprisingly enjoyable for an inexpensive car. I’m keeping it forever, plain and simple.
When I drove GTIs, BMWs, MBs and Porsches I never felt this way about a car. I don’t know if it’s because it’s my first ever new car after decades of driving used or if it’s just because I’ve jumped out of the rat race and finally feeling content in my life. Regardless, when I go out to a parking lot I rarely see another car I’d rather be driving regardless of price. And if I should win the lottery? I may buy other cars (Miata, Vanagon Westfalia, E34 M5 wagon, Lotus Evora and MB W126 spring to mind) but I’m still keeping the Mazda5.

Hell yeah! It helps that my organization is so dysfunctional I have to walk 1/4 mile to the other building’s printer so I get more chances to look at my car. It’s how I found that flat tire a few weeks back...
